Buying an iPhone 6 Plus? Here are 10 iPhone 6 Plus cases.

1 & 2. Apple iPhone 6 cases

Apple has released its own cases for the iPhone 6 and for the iPhone 6 Plus There are two options available: the Leather Case or the Silicone Case. The Leather Case comes in black, red, soft pink, olive brown and midnight blue and costs £35, while the Silicone Case comes in black, white, pink, blue, green and red, and costs £25. Add £4 to each for the iPhone 6 Plus version.

We did find the red and pink both quite similar, and erring towards the pink side of the spectrum.

Both are extremely lightweight and ad virtually no bulk to the iPhone. You don't get complete device protection because the bottom of the iPhone remains exposed, to give full space for the microphone and speaker. The screen is protected by the lip of the case standing above the iPhone screen. Annoyingly when pulled out of a pocket this sometimes grabs a coin with it – something we haven't seen with other cases – although this is a minor complaint for a very well made set of cases.

We also found the grip to be better on the silicone case. The leather isn't slippery but it's not as grippy as the cheaper silicone.

One niggle is that if put in a pocket with your loose change the case has a tendancy to grab a coin when you pull your phone out of your pocket, and then deposit it on the floor. This may be true of all heavily lipped iPhone 6 cases.

3 & 4. LifeProof fré and nüüd iPhone 6 cases

There are three types of people who need extra-special iPhone protection: outdoors adventurers, parents with careless kids, and the generally clumsy. You see them everywhere, with their shattered screens and cracked cases. Lifeproof caters for these people who can’t help dropping their precious iPhone, or who get into such scrapes that only the most robust case will save them.

Lifeproof free iPhone 6 case protection

Lifeproof has two such iPhone 6 cases: the oddly named fré and the nüüd.

Both are claimed to be waterproof (fully submersible to 6.6' or 2m), dirt proof, snow proof and shock proof (drop height to 6.6' or 2m).

The fr? for iPhone 6 features a built-in touchscreen scratch protector, while the nüüd is screenless. Using “integrated gaskets” nüüd somehow forms a waterproof seal around the edge of the iPhone’s touchscreen – keeping the phone waterproof, without the need for a screen cover. It does come with an optional screen scratch protector if you prefer that level of cover.

Both work fine with your fingerprint ID, despite the Home button being covered. The iPhone camera is protected by an AR-coated optical glass lens.

The £69.99 LifeProof fré (pictured top) weighs 35g and measures 148.3-x-76.2-x-11.2mm. It is available in six colours, including black, pink, white/grey, blue, purple and red.

Lifeproof nuud iPhone 6 case protection

The £79.99 Lifeproof nüüd (pictured above) weighs 36g and measures 150.6-x-78.5-x-11.7mm. It is available in five colours, including black, black/blue, white/teal and white/pink, as well as white/grey.

Both cases can be found cheaper online. Find the fré at Amazon. Find the nüüd at Amazon.

Unlike some ultra-protective cases neither the fré or nüüd are massive, but they certainly each add some bulk to the iPhone. But then what’s worse, a fatter phone or a broken, shattered one?

We were impressed by both Lifeproof cases. The nüüd is ingeneous in keeping the screen uncovered, but we think the fré’s total encasing will reassure those who demand the ultimate protection for their iPhone.

5. Otterbox Symmetry Series iPhone 6 cases

Priced at £29 and £39 (but like most things can be found cheaper online) is Otterbox's wide range of colours and patterns for its Symmetry Series for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Otterbox Symmetry Series iPhone 6 cases

Otterbox is known as the gold standard for smartphone protection and the Symmery case certainly feels robust, without making the slim iPhone into an Eighties brick. Its dual-material construction absorbs shock and withstands drops, and its raised beveled edge keeps your iPhone 6 touchscreen safe.

The Symmetry case for iPhone 6 is available in a wide mix of colours and also some pretty girly patterns, too.

6 & 7. EC Technology Ultra Slim Case iPhone 6 cases

This interesting iPhone 6 case from EC Technology uses the iPhone’s LED flash to light up the transparent case when you get a call or turn on the flashlight.

When you get a phone call the edges of the case flash and light up – great for alerting you to call in dark places where you don’t want the ringer on. And it looks kind of cool, too.

EC Technology LED light iPhone 6 case

You need to enable the iPhone so that incoming phone calls trigger the LED flash Alerts – which is done via General Settings > Accessibility.

The lightweight case itself – boasting the usual camera and port cutouts – is transparent and feels robust with a decent hard polycarbonate bumper to protect from knocks, bumps and scratches. There’s also a slider that it makes possible to fill-in light when taking photos.

And, available from Amazon, it’s cheap, too at the time of writing just £8.99 – down from £24.

EC Technology Shockproof iPhone 6 case

EC Technology also sells the Shakeproof (sometimes it calls it Shockproof, which sounds more reasonable) Transformer Hard-Shell Holster, which is designed for sports and outdoor pursuits.

It features a 180-degrees of rotation spring-loaded belt clip so you can hang it on your belt or travel bag. It also has a built-in kickstand.

The rubberized soft-touch finished case adds an extra layer of protection against slipping, knocks, and scratches.

It too can be found cheaply on Amazon; go to the site address here and follow the links.

Both are available for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

8. Mujjo Leather Wallet Case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

The most valuable thing in your pocket or handbag is not your wallet but your smartphone, so the Mujjo Leather Wallet Case for iPhone 6 (from €39.95 including tax and shipping) and iPhone 6 Plus (€49.95) combines both with a handy opening that holds two to three cards as well as your iPhone. Buy direct from the Mujjo Store.

The Mujjo Leather Wallet Case is a classy design in fine, luxury, stitched, vegetable-tanned leather, with suede-lined case interior.

There are the usual cut-outs (volume rockers, headphone-jack, and lighting connector) for ports and buttons so your iPhone remains ready for use at all times.

It’s available in three colours: tan, black and desaturated grey. For an extra €5 you can buy one with the card flap at a stylish 80° angle.

Vegetable-tanned leather wears in with use and acquires a patina and polish over time, as it becomes part of your daily life.

9 & 10. Truffol Intelli Classic & Luxe, and Autograph Fusion Case for iPhone 6

Truffol make smartphone cases that are packaged like luxury items, and stand out from the phone-case crowd. Two new cases for the iPhone 6 are great examples of some unique features.

Truffol Intelli Classic and Luxe iPhone 6 cases

The Truffol Intelli Classic for iPhone 6 is a slim, lightweight (27g) wallet case that, like the Apple iPhone 6 cases, adds very little bulk but includes two pockets for credit cards, office passes or any other cards you fancy being handy for quick use.

On the back of the luxury Italian cowhide leather protective polycarbonate hard-shell case are two card pockets. The neat new feature of this case protects not just against drops and knocks but electronic pickpocketing – also known as EP.

Identity thieves can obtain your credit-card data using hidden RFID readers without you ever knowing. If this concerns you we recommend protecting against EP. The first pocket features an RFID-blocking inner pocket in an “electromagnetically opaque” Faraday cage compartment to protect your RFID credit cards and driver's licences from data theft. The second, outer RFID-friendly pocket, however, allows use of RFID transit cards, such as the London Oyster Card, as well as employee office entrance cards.

The Truffol Intelli case for iPhone 6 comes in two models. The black-leather Truffol Intelli Classic is open faced, but with a bevel to protect the screen. The blue-leather Truffol Intelli Luxe features an extra front cover, secured with a magnetic clasp. The Luxe is also available in black for the iPhone 6 Plus.

Both cost $29.99 (about £19.50) including international shipping.

Truffol Autograph Fusion iPhone 6 cases

The Truffol Autograph Fusion Case for iPhone 6 is a multi-part case. There’s an aluminium bumper frame with metallic external buttons and port cutouts. The second part is a leather backing with two card compartments that sticks to the back of the iPhone 6. The third part of the Autograph Fusion Case is an HD screen protector.

It is available for $24.99 (about £16, including shipping) in Black, Silver (silver bumper, blue leather back), Gold and bling-tastic Black Diamond (featuring 35 inlaid crystals). The iPhone 6 Plus case is sold in Black, Silver and Gold.

11. Casetify iPhone 6 cases

Also priced at £25 are Casetify's fun iPhone 6 cases. They're completely customisable, so you can add your own photographs to the pre-set templates provided. Just what Jonny Ive would have wanted. Not!

12. Incipio DualPro iPhone 6 cases

Incipio also offers an iPhone 6 case, this one called the DualPro. As the name suggests, it has two layers for extra durability, impact resistance and shock absorption. This case comes in various colour combinations to suit your personal style, and will cost you £19.

13. Case-Mate Barely There iPhone 6 cases

If you're looking for something a bit more subtle to protect your iPhone, the Case-Mate Barely There iPhone 6 cases might be ideal. They add the minimum bulk and weight to the iPhone 6, and aim to make sure that the design of the device itself can shine through. Plus, they're just £13.

14. FlexiShield for iPhone 6

Another case that might appeal to those who want something slim but protective for their iPhone 6 is the FlexiShield case. It's a bargain at £5.99 and is made by a thin, flexible gel. It comes in lots of different colours, too.

15. Spigen Ultra Hybrid iPhone 6 Bumper case

We rather like the look of the Spigen Ultra Hybrid iPhone 6 Bumper case, too. It combined a see-through case with a coloured bumper around the edge (choose from clear, mint, gold, grey, dark blue or black). You also get a screen protector included for your £19.99.

16. Case-Mate Creatures for iPhone 6

Something fun for you now, and that's the Case-Mate Creatures case for iPhone 6. It's definitely not very practical (most of the designs have ears of some kind) but for the quirky among you it's definitely going to stand out in the crowd. Designs include a panda, pig, koala, fox and puppy.

17. Ted Baker cases for iPhone 6

Another bright and colourful option for the fashionable among you is the iPhone 6 case range from Ted Baker. There are four designs available, each priced at £24.95. They're made with polycarbonate and have a soft-feel finish.

18. Cygnett WorkMate for iPhone 6

For the more clumsy iPhone 6 owner, there's the Cygnett WorkMate. It's got three layers, it's high-grip and it has anti-slip ridges around the edge. There are three colours of the WorkMate available: Blue, red or black, and it'll cost you £14.95.

19. Griffin Survivor All-Terrain for iPhone 6

Another case with the ultimate protection is the £30 Griffin Survivor All-Terrain case for iPhone 6. This one trumps both the WorkMate and DualPro by offering four layers of protection, including a built-in screen protector.

20. Grovemade Walnut & Leather iPhone 6

If you're after a bit of luxury, you might like the Grovemade Walnut & Leather iPhone 6 case, which is handmade using real walnut and leather for a stylish and sophisticated look. The leather flap on the front also doubles as a handy stand. It'll cost you around £80 for this one though.

21 & 22. Nodus Access Case for iPhone 6

Another premium option is the Nodus Access Case range for iPhone 6.

The Nodus Access Case for iPhone 6 – available in either Flip Down or Portfolio styles – is a clever leather case that fixes the iPhone in place using a smart Micro Suction technology. Small micro-suction pads grip the iPhone in place with a super-strong bond. In our tests this worked just fine, despite our initial fears that the phone would slip out. The Portfolio cover did tend to flip open when outside the pocket, which we would have preferred to stay closed. And bending the case to set as a stand created a ridge in the cover, which very well may be intentional but did surprise us. The phone is, however, easily removed, with no residue from the bond, and it can be removed and attached whenever you like. It’s a neat, innovative solution that reduces the bulk you often get from phone cases.

From a style point of view the Access Case looks like a premium leather wallet, unlike the slightly cheap leather feel you get from Apple’s own iPhone 6 case. There is also a utility pocket to keep cash or credit/business/travel cards. Cases are available in Chestnut Brown and Ebony Black, from £59.99 (for iPhone 6) and £69.99 (iPhone 6 Plus).

23. The Vesel Wood Series for iPhone 6

The Vesel Wood Series is a series of luxury cases, crafted from a combination of aluminium and either oak or walnut that’ll set you back 158€ (around £113). Vesel claims that all parts of the case are milled and turned from single blocks/bars of materials and that the company only uses the highest quality wood and 7075 aluminium alloy. That particular aluminium alloy is particularly strong, with a strength comparable to many types of steel.

A nice touch is the matching custom aluminium buttons that protrude from the wood on either side, allowing easy access to the volume buttons, side switch and lock button. The wood and colour pigments used in every case are unique, and to make the experience of receiving the case more special, Vesel also includes a unique serial number plate in the box.

The case has to be unscrewed before your iPhone can be slotted in, which is a feature that we haven’t really seen on other cases but it gives you a sense of security that other plastic cases just can’t give you. Even though its only a bumper case and not a full protective case, it raises your iPhone from the ground slightly so that the protruding camera no longer comes into contact with the surface.
