As many buyers are curious, it will be important to measure the pros and cons in the iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 debate. The ~5 inch-sized smartphones are two of the most important devices in tech right now. It’s only right that we put pit them against one another in the ring. We don’t know many official details regarding the iPhone 7, but based off of rumors we can speculate. Starting with design:
iPhone 7 Vs. Galaxy S6: Design
The Samsung Galaxy S6 design is a departure from the S5 look before it. In this iteration of Samsung’s flagship phone, the device makes use of a glass back -- making it more susceptible to drops but also better looking. The S6 is seen as similar to the iPhone 6 in terms of protruding camera and layout of headphone jack, charging port and speaker grille. Though when viewing the facade, the Galaxy S6 won’t be mistaken for an iPhone anytime soon -- especially not the Edge.
So how does the Samsung Galaxy S6 design stack up to the iPhone 7? If Apple goes the iPhone 6s route, we may see an identical physical design to the 6 before it. The all aluminum enclosure doesn’t allow for swapping out batteries (similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6) but does lend to a more premium feel. Both models contain a fingerprint sensor on the front, which allow for easy entry. Neither phone is extraordinarily thinner than the other and the same may hold true in terms of iPhone 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S6.
No Bezel
While we all want a bezel-free device, we’ve seen how on-screen readings of one’s fingerprints can lead to a not-so-great experience. See: Samsung Galaxy S5. Though the S6 addressed this by including a fingerprint sensor in the main button. For Apple to go the opposite direction would be an interesting move on the company’s part.
Force Touch
Many have speculated the addition of Force Touch in the iPhone 7. While none of Samsung’s products come with the feature, Apple’s smartwatch and latest Macbook tout the ability to hard-press your device’s screen (or trackpad). On the Apple Watch, Force Touch is used to change clock faces, and reveal extra options that would take up too much on-screen space. The iPhone, however, has much more surface area to work with and may not benefit as greatly from Force Touch.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 doesn’t quite have this feature, but it does hold other abilities that Apple’s smartphone products are without. The S6, for example, comes with a pixel density of 577 ppi -- or 2560 x 1440. The Galaxy phone also has 3GB of RAM. These are strengths in the S6 that Apple will likely not upgrade with their iPhone 6s or 7 device.
Wireless Charging
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6 are similar in many ways. But one area the S6 has iOS’s best clearly beat is in wireless charging. While the iPhone still requires users to tether to a wall via cable for moving power, Samsung’s best can do so using inductive charging. Though the iPhone may be joining its ranks with Apple’s next release.
