Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Rumors: A Fitting Opponent To Apple Inc. iPhone 6 Plus?

Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Rumors: A Fitting Opponent To Apple Inc. iPhone 6 Plus?

The IFA consumer electronics show is set to take place in September 2015, where it is rumored that Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (OTCMKTS:SSNLF) will unveil its latest phablet, the Galaxy Note 5. The much-awaited launch of the latest variant in line of the highly successful Galaxy Note series has us searching for any news regarding what we should expect from the tech giant. The search has been even more fervent from Android fans, who note that Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 6 Plus has been enjoying the crown of the Phablet market, already accounting for the bulk of the market’s profits and high-end sales. This will mean that Samsung’s Galaxy Note series might very well become a placeholder in the industry for a larger version of the current generation Galaxy S-series devices.

One thing that we can be reasonably sure of is that the Galaxy Note 5 will be released in only one version, unlike its predecessors, where the Galaxy Note Edge was made available at the same time.

Speculation is rife that the phablet will come with either a QHD or 4K Super AMOLED screen (still in the testing phase). Samsung is known to manufacture smartphones supporting bright colors and have high resolution screens, so it won’t be surprising if a 4K screen is introduced. This would make the device the only smartphone supporting such high a resolution, after of course, Sharp’s 4K smartphone offering; however, it is possible that this distinction might change closer to the Note 5’s launch.

However, this will have its downsides; it is likely to use up more battery, which is bound to disappoint users unless a larger-sized battery is used to power the Note 5. One must notice that the Note lineup has offered increased battery life every generation; the Galaxy Note 4 also came with an ultra power-saving mode. The screen is most likely to be super-AMOLED, in line with the market; it is expected to be as big as the Note 4’s 5.7-inch screen, and might possibly be even slightly bigger.

Samsung also has the option to revamp the Galaxy Note Edge, following the introduction of the Galaxy Note 5. Rumor has it that the new project, codenamed Project Zen, will result in the device having two edges; however, it is still unclear whether they’ll be usable or if they’ll be merely a showpiece feature like the Samsung S6 Edge.

Samsung has yet to reveal the processor which will be powering the Note 5, considering the different options they have at their disposal varying from Qualcomm Inc.’s (NASDAQ:QCOM) Snapdragon 808 to Samsung’s own Exynos 7422 – which is also used in the Samsung S6. The Exynos 7422 combines the GPU, RAM, CPU and modem all onto one single chip, thereby offering an all-in-one solution (ePoP) SoC (system on a chip).

The camera possibilities for the Note 5 are still very much in the dark. However the Edge 2 might support a 20-megapixel rear camera with an 8-megapixel front camera; these are various speculative reports, therefore the possibility of entirely different cameras is more than likely, but it should at the very least match up with the 16MP offering that the Note 4 currently has for the rear camera.

The Galaxy Note 5 and the latest Note Edge are still in their concept phase, but should be unveiled to the masses this September. Users expect these phones to be significantly more powerful in terms of hardware, possibly giving the iPhone 6 Plus and its upcoming successor a run for its money after the initially overwhelming positive reception of the Samsung Galaxy S6. Significant improvements to the S-pen as well as the health features built into the Note 4 are expected as the Korean tech giant continues to build up the Note lineup as the ultimate phablet solution in the market.
